Matthias Herter is an expert in crisis and hostage negotiation, with 21 years of frontline experience serving with Swiss police crisis response units. His early dream of joining the military led to a distinguished police career, where he specialised in high-stakes negotiations involving kidnappings, barricaded individuals, and life-or-death incidents across the globe. Matthias has led multinational negotiations with agencies from the UK, Germany, and Switzerland, including complex interventions with Al Qaeda and cases of public crisis.
He now runs a private company advising leaders, companies, and NGOs on negotiation and conflict resolution. Renowned for his rigorous approach, global insight, and commitment to ethics and teamwork, Matthias is also President of a European network for kidnapping and extortion response. His unique focus on emotional nuance and unconditional team support has saved lives, and continues to inspire leaders in every field.
